Building on the success of the initial 2070sqm warehouse completed in January 2023 for Vulcan Steel in Otago, our team was tasked with delivering a cohesive expansion. This project aimed to unite Vulcan Steel's core business with their newly acquired Ulrich Aluminum operations under a single, streamlined facility in Mosgiel.

Strategic Consolidation: A Need for More Space

Vulcan Steel's strategic purchase of Ulrich Aluminum in July 2022 necessitated a plan to integrate both businesses. Combining their operations in Mosgiel offered operational efficiencies and a stronger market presence, however, the existing warehouse wasn't equipped to handle the expanded product range and increased activity.

Overcoming Obstacles for Seamless Integration

The 253sqm addition demanded creative solutions. Integrating the extension seamlessly with the recently completed, original building presented a unique set of considerations. Our team meticulously planned the expansion to ensure a well-connected final product. This involved the strategic removal and replacement of a 3m high concrete tilt panel wall to create a continuous open floor plan, a priority for Vulcan Steel. Furthermore, skillful reinforcement of the existing steel portal with a secondary structure ensured the strength, integrity and core functionality remained uncompromised.

Completed within a tight 3-month timeframe (late January to late April), the project exceeded Vulcan Steel's expectations. They were particularly impressed with the minimal disruption caused to their ongoing operations and the seamless integration of the new space.
